“Six tons topped off a quarter mile driveway full of potholes from last winter's freeze and thaw. Graded it ourselves with the tractor box blade in an afternoon. Smooth ride to the mailbox now, even after last week's rain.”

For a contractor preparing a Kansas entrance, the surface stone goes in after the ground has been readied to carry traffic. Driveway Gravel uses crushed aggregate that tightens under compaction, forming a dense course for regular vehicle travel. That interlocking action is useful on home drives, farm access routes, and parking sections that need a settled finish.
Eastern Kansas clay can swell during wet spring conditions and dry out later, while western ground may drain more freely. Compact the support beneath the surface material before spreading Driveway Gravel, giving the finished course a sound foundation when moisture changes the soil. On routes exposed to flash rain, maintain the site drainage so loose surface stone is less likely to move across the drive.

Common Uses
Residential Driveways
Build a clean-looking, hard-wearing driveway for everyday traffic. Compacted driveway gravel gives tires grip in rain and light snow, helping it hold up through regular use.
Parking Areas & Pads
Use gravel to build extra vehicle parking for cars, trucks, and RVs. Add onto the pad later when you need more room.
Farm & Rural Roads
For farm and section-line roads, access drives, and rural lanes, driveway gravel offers an alternative where pavement is impractical or cost-prohibitive. It accommodates heavy equipment and livestock traffic.
Turnaround Areas & Aprons
Build a turning space at the driveway's end, or use gravel for the apron at its road entrance. Repeated use at these transition spots calls for driveway gravel that compacts firmly.
Why Choose Driveway Gravel
Durability
Daily vehicles place weight and wear on a driveway. When compacted, the angular pieces of crushed gravel interlock, limiting movement and keeping the driving area even.
Low Maintenance
After installation, a gravel drive needs occasional raking and top dressing from time to time. It does not need seal coating, and it avoids the cracking and heaving associated with pavement.
Lower Cost
Compared by square foot, gravel usually requires less spending on materials and installation than asphalt or concrete. Ordering in bulk can lower the per-ton cost for larger jobs.
Superior Drainage
Rain passes through gravel rather than running off an impervious paved surface. This helps reduce pooling and runoff while keeping drainage moving across the property, especially in eastern Kansas clay.

Close but not quite enough gravel
We used the online calculator on the Kansas Rock Supply site to figure out how much we needed for topping off about two hundred feet of driveway leading up from the road, and it said thirteen tons would do it. Spread it out over the worst of the ruts and low spots first, then worked backward toward the garage, and ran out about fifteen feet short of the end near the mailbox. Had to place a small follow up order the next week to finish that last stretch. Everything else about it was solid, drains fine and hasn't washboarded since we put it down in the fall.

Driver Arrived Right at the Deadline
Topped off our long driveway out past Parsons with a fresh load of driveway gravel before harvest traffic picked up. Kansas Rock Supply's driver got there, but not until the very end of the window, well past when we'd cleared the afternoon for it. Gravel itself packed in nice and the ruts are gone, so no real complaints beyond the wait.

Wheat Harvest Traffic Packed It Tight
Twelve tons of driveway gravel topped our half-mile lane out toward El Dorado in late June, right before wheat harvest traffic really picked up. Kansas Rock Supply had the tandem spread it in two passes so we did not have to drag it ourselves. Within a couple weeks of grain trucks running the lane daily, the gravel had packed down tight and the dust settled into a solid, even surface.

Rental driveway looks brand new again
Needed to top off the driveway at a rental property before a new tenant moved in, so we called Kansas Rock Supply for about eight tons to cover the whole length. The driver worked around the tight street out front and still got the tandem close enough to dump right where we marked. Tenant mentioned how nice it looked before they'd even unpacked the truck.
