Order Gravel, Stone and Soil in Franklin, KS
What do you order for gravel and aggregate delivery in Franklin, KS? It depends on the job, and the answer is usually short.
Kansas Rock Supply delivers bulk material across Crawford County, from AB-3 for a drive base to washed stone for drainage and decorative rock for beds. The ground here decides most of it.
This corner of the state sits on heavy claypan that holds water, so a base under-built for the soil is the problem that shows up first. Franklin yards stay wet for days after a storm, and driveway projects here start with AB-3.
Delivery to Franklin and the Surrounding Area
You order online and choose a quantity by the ton or by the yard. Each product page has a calculator to help size the load, and you pick a delivery date at checkout.
A dump truck then tips your material on site.
The truck tips the load in one pile. That is the whole delivery: no placement, no spreading, no instruction to the driver.
Franklin sits in Crawford County, and delivery covers the surrounding area, including Pittsburg, Frontenac, Girard, Arma and Cherokee.
Bulk loads arrive as one pile where the truck can reach, so think about where that pile should sit before it lands. Material you plan to move by hand is easier to work from a pile set close to the job.
Materials for Franklin Projects
Most decorative work here starts with what the bed sits on. For ground cover and dry creek beds, Kansas River Rock is rounded washed gravel, the kind dredged from the Kansas River, which locals call the Kaw.
It moves well underfoot and looks right in a border.
For heavier decorative and erosion work, Large River Rock handles dry creek beds and splash pads under downspouts. Where a bed wants a smaller rounded stone, 3/8" Natural Pea Gravel suits walkways, play areas and dog runs.
On the practical side, AB-3 is the Kansas name for dense-graded crushed limestone base. It locks up tight when moisture-conditioned and rolled, and it carries driveways, parking pads and shop bases.
1 Inch Minus is the smaller dense-graded rock for topping a drive or patching a soft spot.
For drainage, 1 Inch Clean is washed limestone sold by inch size, used in French drains, pipe bedding and construction entrances. Top Soil and Shredded Mulch finish the beds once the rock is set.
Ground and Conditions in Franklin
Across the Cherokee Lowlands and the southeast corner, the ground is a gently rolling to flat plain over shale, sandstone and coal. Much of it is heavy claypan soil that holds water rather than draining it.
That is the condition a base has to answer for.
This is the wettest corner of the state. Rain on flat, slow-draining ground causes sheet wash and ponding more than gullying, so water sits where it lands.
A drive or pad built thin over claypan goes soft and rutted, and it stays that way.
Winters are the mildest in Kansas, but the ground still freezes and thaws, and saturated claypan heaves when it does. Frost depth is set city by city here, and the local building official sets footing depth.
The working season is long, limited by wet ground far more than by cold.
Late summer and early fall are usually the driest weeks for base work. If your site holds water, that timing matters more than anything else on the list.
